The first lights of the dawn played a delicate caress on the tender leaves of the vineyards. Some small birds had already started singing, and the fields at the outskirts of the village would start to get busy at any moment.
Thankfully, the memories of his old human life only came back at certain painful moments. Extreme beauty used to trigger them, and those moments always made him feel as part of a terrible joke. He was the bearer of pestilence, the harbinger of doom, the herald of the Plague. Why he was allowed to appreciate it?
He felt his journey was over when he reached the first houses, looking for the usual well that would serve to drop his nauseating gift. But, in any case, his secret was safe as nobody ever survived to tell about his discreet task…
